Frameless motor

What is a frameless motor ? A frameless motor consists of rotor and stator components which are built into a machine assembly to transmit torque to a load. It is typically integrated with other components, including a housing, shafting, bearings, feedback device and other elements to complete the servo system. Frameless motors are rotor-and-stator subcomponent sets that aren’t prefixed in a traditional motor housing.


They don’t include an output shaft (or shaft-support bearings) either.

Instea it’s left to the OEM or design engineer to integrate the frameless motor stator and rotor directly onto the machine axis. That’s why the engines are a good match for printing and scanning equipment where velocity ripple is highly unwelcome. Small in size, the engines can be fitted into constricted spaces and allow for various mounting configurations. Hall effects may be offered as an option to provide feedback if an encoder is not selected for the application.

For direct drive torque motors inertia is low, which makes the motors very suitable for high spee acceleration applications with fast starts and stops. These frameless motors are a type of perma-nent-magnet synchronous motors.
